Construction Update - August 27, 2026

Rendering of Dartmouth Street entrance in final condition

The following is an update on construction activity for the Back Bay Station Concourse Renovation Project.

Please allow an extra five minutes as you get used to construction zones and paths of travel at the station.

Temporary Light Towers in Clarendon Street Busway

Temporary Light Tower

The project team recently installed solar-powered lighting equipment in the Clarendon Street busway to serve as interim emergency lighting during construction. These lights are aimed downward and are required to enhance nighttime illumination and safety for station customers.

This is a temporary measure that is anticipated to be in place for approximately six months while the project team designs a permanent emergency lighting system upgrade. The permanent lighting system will only be activated in the event of a power failure.

New Bike Cage Opening This September

The new bike cage is now anticipated to open this September. Once the new bike cage is in place, the existing bike cage inside the concourse will be closed and removed. The new bike cage will be located outside the station at the Clarendon Street entrance. The existing bike cage will be removed two weeks after the opening of the new bike cage.

All bikes within the existing bike cage will be tagged and an announcement will be posted here when the bike cage is open.
